Customer reviews

Robert designed and delivered a wonderful new garden for us. The project included a pool, BBQ area, wild meadow, kitchen garden and other paths and seating areas. Robert’s approach is very interactive and he communicates well ensuing that the final result is very much what we hoped for.

We are extremely happy with our garden and receive a lot of compliments from visitors. It works practically as well as being a delight to look at.
— Mr & Mrs Benda, West Wittering
Robert took our rough and ready steeply-sloped plot and transformed it into a contemporary low maintenance showpiece... We’re absolutely delighted with the result and have received many compliments.
— Mr & Mrs A Chalklin, Haslemere
We have much enjoyed working with you on the project and we found many of your ideas and your thoughtfulness inspirational – many thanks indeed.
— Mr & Mrs Farley, Milland, West Sussex
Robert was thoughtful in responding to a well-used and quite shady site. He introduced water, inviting birds and amphibian life back into this urban setting. All to the delight of the children - pond dipping in London is a rare luxury!
— Ms S Griffin, London
We would highly recommend Robert to anyone looking to transform their garden. We’ve worked with him for 18 months throughout the redesign of our garden. He has worked closely with us through the entire process, from initial designs, and mood boards, through to hard landscaping and individual planting plans.

Robert listened carefully to what we were trying to achieve, but then added on his own ideas and exceptional plants knowledge to turn it into something really special and much admired.

Robert is extremely conscientious with an excellent eye for detail. He has been happy to get his hands dirty, from sourcing specimen plants, or helping our gardener understand how to look after the new scheme.
— Mr & Mrs C, Chiddingfold

The art and craft of gardens for 21st century living.

The art of garden design.

As our summers become warmer, now is the moment for effortless outdoors living. A seamless flow from indoors to out. Dappled shade for al fresco dining. Outdoors kitchens or BBQs. Imaginative lighting. Not to mention a selection of plants that is as low maintenance as possible.

My garden design service encompasses all or some of the following : Concept design - landscape contractor selection and oversight - garden rejuvenation / re-modelling - planting plans.

The craft of garden design.

So much of the stuff in our lives is mass-manufactured. In creating a garden, you have the chance to deploy local craft talent. And that doesn’t have to mean being old-fashioned in style. Craft skills can be used in a contemporary way. From makers of steam-bent oak garden benches to hedge layers. From outdoors kitchen cabinet makers to dry-stone wallers. From steel fabricators to ceramicists and sculptors. I have built up a Source Book of tried-and-tested artisans and makers.

The ecology of garden design.

Your garden is the one micro-environment you oversee. With that in mind, my designs are as sustainable as possible. I source plants that are suited to our ever-dryer summer climate and require as little irrigation (watering) as possible. When it comes to hard landscaping, I minimise the use of carbon-intensive materials like concrete wherever practicable. And one of the best ways to support wildlife in our gardens is by having a natural, chemical-free pond. So I encourage clients to at least consider whether there’s a place for one in their new garden.

Making gardens in the South of England and further afield.
